A slide bowl is a bowl that is simply pulled out of the bong when clearing it – it "slides" out. Instead of regulating the airflow via a carb hole, you control it by lifting the bowl at the right moment.

How does a slide bowl work?

You pack and smoke as usual. Once the chamber is full of smoke, you pull the slide bowl out of the downstem – this allows fresh air to flow in and the smoke is quickly drawn upwards. Then you reinsert the bowl. A simple, proven principle.

Slide bowl or carb hole?

Both serve the same purpose: to control the draw and clear the chamber. With a carb hole, the bowl remains in place and you uncover a side hole. With a slide bowl, you pull the entire bowl out. It's a matter of taste – many prefer the direct feeling of pulling it out.

What should you pay attention to?

A clean precision ground joint is important so that the slide bowl sits tightly yet slides easily – hence the name. If it's too loose, the bong draws in ambient air; if it's too tight, nothing slides. Good craftsmanship makes the difference here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a slide bowl fit every bong?
Only with the correct joint size (NS 14 or NS 18). An adapter helps with deviations.

Do I need an additional screen?
A bong screen or a bowl with a built-in glass screen prevents material from slipping through.

Is a slide bowl better than a carb hole?
Neither – it's a matter of preference. Both reliably control the draw.
