The downstem – is the tube that directs smoke from the bowl down into the water. It is the link between the bowl and the water chamber and thus a central component for filtering your bong.
What is the downstem for?
The smoke from the bowl must enter the water to be filtered and cooled. This is exactly what the downstem does: it guides the smoke below the water surface, where it rises in bubbles. How fine these bubbles are depends on the lower end of the downstem.
Downstem with diffuser
If the lower end is slotted or perforated, it is called a diffuser. This breaks the smoke down into many small bubbles and thus filters more finely than an open downstem. For a smooth draw, a diffused downstem is almost always the better choice.
Length and joint size
The downstem must fit the bong – in length and in joint size (NS 14 or NS 18). Too short, and it won't reach the water; too long, and it will hit the bottom. At EHLE., you get matching downstems with clean workmanship – tight-fitting and durable.
Frequently Asked Questions
My downstem is broken – can I replace it?
Yes. As long as the joint size and length match, you can simply replace it. We also offer repairs.
Fixed or removable downstem?
Removable downstems are more flexible and easier to clean. Fixed downstems are more robust but less variable.
