The carb hole (German: Kickloch) is a small hole on the side of a bong, usually at the height of the downstem connection. You control the airflow with it when inhaling – if you cover it, smoke builds up; if you release it, fresh air rushes in and the smoke quickly enters your lungs.
How do I use the carb hole?
When inhaling, you cover the carb hole with your finger and let the chamber fill up. At the right moment, you release the hole: the incoming air suddenly pushes the smoke upwards. This ensures a strong, clean hit and prevents stale smoke from remaining in the bong.
Carb hole or removable bowl?
There are two designs. With a carb hole, the bowl remains in place, and you regulate the airflow via the side hole. With the classic removable bowl variant, you instead pull out the bowl to "clear" the bong. Both work – the carb hole is a little more comfortable because you don't have to remove anything.
Frequently asked questions
Does every bong need a carb hole?
No. Many modern bongs rely on the removable bowl. A carb hole is a matter of taste – some swear by it, others don't need it.
Can a carb hole be retrofitted?
Only through professional glasswork. As a customization, something like this can be planned – just ask us.
