A honeycomb percolator is a flat disc with many small holes – arranged like a honeycomb. These many holes break the smoke down into particularly even, fine bubbles. This makes the honeycomb one of the most popular percolators ever.
How does a honeycomb percolator work?
The smoke is pressed against the perforated disc from below and exits through the many small openings. Because there are so many holes, an extremely large number of fine bubbles are created at once – evenly distributed over the entire surface. This filters and cools effectively and sounds pleasantly rich.
The advantages
- Very even diffusion – many holes, many fine bubbles.
- Space-saving – the flat disc requires little height, so several can often be stacked on top of each other.
- Good draw – pleasant to draw despite fine filtering.
Honeycomb and Stacking
Because the discs are flat, several can be stacked on top of each other (stacking). Each layer filters again – so you get extremely smooth smoke in a small space. One reason why the honeycomb is so popular with filter fans.
Frequently asked questions
Is a honeycomb difficult to clean?
The many holes get clogged over time. Regular flushing with cleaning solution keeps it clear.
Honeycomb or tree percolator?
The honeycomb filters very evenly and space-efficiently, the tree percolator is more visually striking.
Does a honeycomb clog easily?
Only with a lack of maintenance. Kept clean, it draws reliably.
