Measuring a Chillum correctly
how to find the right replacement downstem
Is your downstem broken, too short, too long, or do you simply want to order a new replacement part? Then two things are crucial: the right joint size and the correct length. It sounds technical at first, but it's quickly explained. With these instructions, you can accurately measure your downstem step-by-step and find exactly the part that fits your pipe.

Why moderation is so important
A downstem must fit precisely—which is exactly what EHLE. joints are known for. If the length or joint size isn't right, you notice it immediately: The downstem sits too deep, barely reaches the water, or, in the worst case, doesn't fit properly into the pipe at all.
Just a few millimeters can determine whether the airflow functions properly or if the pipe remains comfortably usable. That's why it's worth measuring correctly once, rather than ordering the wrong spare part later.
Step 1: Determine the Cut
The joint connects your pipe to the downstem or bowl. For everything to fit properly and function optimally, the joint size must be exact.
At EHLE. you will mainly find these four sizes:
NS 10 / 10.0
The smallest standard ground joint in the range. Often found on very compact pipes, oil setups, or smaller accessories.
NS 14 / 14.5
The smaller standard ground joint. Often found in more compact pipes or smaller models.
NS 18 / 18.8
The larger standard grind. Often found on medium and large bongs.
NS 29 / 29.2
An exceptionally large grind for special setups or very large pipes. Used significantly less often than NS 14 or NS 18.

Tip
If you are unsure about your grind, measure the outer diameter at the widest point of the ground area or compare your spare part directly with an existing EHLE. downstem or bowl.
Step 2: Measuring the length correctly
You don't measure the length of the chillum just anywhere, but neatly from the top edge of the joint to the bottom end of the chillum.
How to measure correctly
Place the downstem on a flat surface. Position your tape measure or ruler at the top edge of the ground joint and measure to the bottom end of the glass tube.
Important
Do not measure the head, the clutch, or any protruding area. Crucial is the length of the chillum that will later be inserted into the pipe and reach into the water.

Step 3: Mind the Diffuser
In addition to the grind and length, the diffuser type also plays an important role. It influences how the smoke is distributed in the water and how the draw feels.
Without diffuser
The classic version. Direct, open and with little resistance. Particularly popular with those who prefer the most unadulterated draw possible.
Diffuser with holes
The smoke is distributed through several small openings. This creates finer bubbles and a smoother draw.
Diffuser with slots
Ensures even distribution and pleasant airflow. A frequently used option, especially for larger pipes.
Diffuser with Holes + Slots
Combines the fine bubbling of holes with the even distribution of slits. A balanced option for pleasant draw and good filtration.
Diffuser with holes + open at bottom
The holes provide additional water dispersion, while the open bottom keeps resistance low. Particularly popular with those who prefer a loose draw with light filtration.
Find the right EHLE. Chillums
Do you know your size? Then you can now specifically look for the right replacement chillum. In the shop, simply pay attention to the joint size, length, and diffuser type.
