Buy a Bong – handmade glass directly from the manufacturer
A bong is more than a smoking device – it determines the draw, the cooling, and how long the piece will last. At EHLE., you won't get anonymous mass-produced goods, but rather bongs made with genuine German glassblowing artistry. Everything is created directly in our own workshop in Germany – and every pipe goes through the hands of Thomas Ehle. For over 37 years, Made in Germany.
What makes a good bong
The difference between a 20-euro bong and a piece that will last you for years is rarely in its appearance. It's in the material and the craftsmanship:
- Borosilicate glass 3.3 – heat-resistant, taste-neutral, and significantly more robust than simple glass. Hot water? No problem.
- Wall thickness – we work with thick walls. 5 to 7 mm glass forgives much more than thin mass-produced goods and feels substantial in the hand.
- Precision joints – perfectly fitting joints that sit securely and don't wobble. This is precisely what determines airtightness and draw.
Which bong is right for you?
- Cylinder Bongs – the straight classic: even draw, uncomplicated, from 250 to 2000 ml.
- Beaker Bongs – wide base, more water volume, particularly tip-resistant.
- Round Base Bongs – heavier, solid stand, often with ice notches for extra cooling.
- Percolator Bongs – additional chambers that swirl the smoke more intensely with water: cooler, smoother, less irritating.
As a beginner, you're best off with 300 to 500 ml – large enough for a decent draw, but not so clunky that it becomes uncomfortable. A carb hole and a diffuser also make the start more pleasant.
Individual instead of off-the-rack
You can customize almost all models: you choose the joint size (NS 14.5 or NS 18.8), carb hole, logo, and accessories yourself. Do you have your own idea? Then our custom designs are just your thing – or you can build your bong piece by piece in the configurator.
Why EHLE. instead of mass-produced goods?
We are manufacturers, not middlemen. For over 37 years, the name Thomas Ehle has stood for bongs "Made in Germany" – a master and training company, with its own repair service and neutral shipping. If you want to buy a bong that really lasts, you've come to the right place.
Frequent Questions about Buying a Bong
Which bong is right for beginners?
One with 300–500 ml, with a carb hole and diffuser. Large enough for a good draw, easy to handle, and easy to clean. 2000 ml models look impressive, but are often too much for beginners.
What do NS 14.5 and NS 18.8 mean?
This is the joint size – the diameter of the connection between the bong, downstem, and bowl. NS 18.8 is larger and most common, NS 14.5 is more compact. You can get both from us; the accessories must match the respective joint.
What wall thickness should a bong have?
For durability, the thicker, the more robust. Our bongs are intentionally thick-walled (usually 5–7 mm) – this can withstand a mishap that thin mass-produced goods wouldn't forgive.
What do a diffuser or percolator do?
Both swirl the smoke more intensely with the water. The result: cooler, smoother, less irritating smoke. A diffuser is the simpler option, a percolator is the more elaborate one with an additional chamber.
What is the carb hole for?
Through the carb hole, you pull in fresh air at the end and clear the smoke completely. Some like it, some don't – with us, you decide yourself, without any extra charge.
How do I clean my bong properly?
Rinse with warm water promptly after use. For thorough cleaning, add some cleaner, warm water, let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse 2-3 times. Easiest with our cleaning kit and the organic cleaner.
How much water goes into the bong?
Enough so that the downstem stands one to two centimeters in the water. For percolator bongs, fill the percolator chamber about halfway so that the diffuser is visibly in the water. A test draw quickly shows if it's right.
Are your bongs really handmade?
Yes, completely. Every bong is made in our own workshop in Germany – no imports, no assembly line goods. And every single pipe goes through the hands of Thomas Ehle.
