A banger is the small bowl in which concentrate is vaporized during dabbing. It is heated, then you put the dab into it. Most bangers are made of quartz – this withstands heat, is tasteless, and durable.
Why quartz?
Quartz tolerates high temperatures and extreme temperature changes better than normal glass and does not impart its own taste. This is exactly what is needed for dabbing, where the bowl is repeatedly heated and cooled. There are also bangers made of titanium or ceramic, but quartz is the standard for clean taste.
What banger shapes are there?
- Flat Top – flat top edge, ideal for a carb cap.
- Thermal Banger – double-walled, retains heat longer.
- Terp Slurper – for even vaporization at low temperatures.
Proper banger care
After dabbing, a residue remains. While the banger is still warm, wipe it with a cotton swab – this keeps it clean and the taste neutral. Occasionally, a thorough cleaning bath is worthwhile. A dab tool and a carb cap are essential basic equipment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How hot should a banger be?
For aromatic low-temp dabs, significantly less than glowing is sufficient. An E-nail maintains the temperature precisely.
Banger or glass nail?
The quartz banger has largely replaced the glass nail – it is more durable and tastes cleaner.
